Clinical Evaluation of an in Vitro Test for Radiosensitivity of Leukemic Lymphocytes
نویسنده
چکیده
By ROBERT SCHREK, STANLEY L. LEIThOLD, IRVING A. FRIEDMAN AND WILLIAM R. BEST A PREVIOUS PAPER described a slide-chamber method for the measurement of the radiosensitivity of lymphocytes from leukemic patients.1 The method was used to study 31 patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia or with lymphosarcoma in leukemic phase.2 The patients showed considerable variability with respect to the radiosensitivity of their blood lymphocytes. Of particular interest were a few patients with lymphocytes which were resistant to irradiation with 1000 roentgens. This high degree of resistance was quite impressive since the lymphocytes of other leukemic patients and of non-leukemic individuals showed significant responses to dosages as low as 2 roentgens. An evaluation of the clinical significance of the slide-chamber method requires the determination of the correlation of radiosensitivity of the leukemic lymphocytes in vitro with clinical response of the patients. Unfortunately, this is a difficult problem in view of the many uncontrolled variables in a clinical study and because of the lengthy period required to collect sufficient patients and study their clinical progress. The clinical histories of 80 leukemic patients were thoroughly reviewed. In this report we will consider a few objective clinical findings of 19 patients with radioresistant lymphocytes and 61 patients with sensitive cells.

متن کاملG2 chromosomal radiosensitivity and background frequency of sister chromatid exchanges of peripheral blood lymphocytes of breast cancer patients
Background: Chromosomal alterations play an important role in carcinogenesis. Enhanced chromosomal radiosensitivity is shown for many cancer predisposition conditions including breast cancer. In this study chromosomal radiosensitivity and the frequency of background sister chromnatid exchanges (SCE) in lymphocytes of normal individuals and breast cancer patients was compared. Materials...
متن کاملEvaluation of effective factors in the optimization of immunization to achieve antibodies against RhD antigen in culture medium
Abstract Background and Objectives Antibody against RhD antigen is important in blood transfusion and clinical medicine. Therefore, in this study, the effective factors in the optimization of in vitro immunization to achieve immunized lymphocytes that produce antibodies were evaluated to obtain antibodies against RhD antigen in the culture medium. Materials and Methods In an experimental study...
متن کاملUse of Apoptotic Biomarkers to Predict Response to Radiotherapy in Breast Cancer Patients
Introduction: To enhance radiation therapy efficiency it is crucial to implement an individual-based treatment. The aim of present study was to identify the mechanism of intrinsic apoptosis pathway on radiosensitivity and normal tissue complications caused by the radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: radiation-induced apoptosis in periphera...
متن کاملThe Protective Effects of Origanum vulgare L. Extract on Genetic Damage of Cyclophosphamide in Mice Blood Lymphocytes Using Micronucleus Test
Despite its various clinical applications, cyclophosphamide (CP), an alkylating chemotherapeutic agent, has demonstrated numerous side effects, including genetic toxicity. This study investigated the protective action of Origanum vulgare L., a powerful antioxidant plant, on the genotoxicity of CP in the mice blood lymphocytes. The mice were pretreated orally with different doses of (50, 100, 20...
